Hiram Blauvelt Acquires Two Guy Coheleachs For Its Permanent Collection

Oradell, New Jersey Art Museum Solidifies Connection With Noted Sporting Artist

Written by Todd Wilkinson (Authors Bio)

The Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum in Oradell, New Jersey has acquired two paintings by American artist Guy Coheleach for its permanent collection, museum board president Jame Bellis says.

The two pieces, both oils, are "Running Tiger II" and "Foxfire II".  "Guy Coheleach is known as one of the best wildlife painters in the world, revered for the authenticity of his work, developed through his travels in Africa and admired by the best art critics," museum spokeswoman Deborah Hurley said.

Coheleach (b. 1933) has received the Award of Excellence eight times from the Society of Animal Artists and been the subject of major one-man exhibitions. He also is a Master Artist at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.  Coheleach has had a close association with the Blauvelt Museum for years, dating back to the late 1950s when Coheleach, a noted illustrator, made the switch easel painting.

A 30 X 40 gouache on paper portrayal of a bengal tiger recently was featured at the 2011 Coeur d'Alene Art Auction and sold for $17,550.
