Society of Wildlife Artists Welcomes North American Submissions For Autumn Show

With July Deadline Fast Approaching, Works By Non-UK Artists Can Be Sent Electronically

Written by Wildlife Art Journal Staff (Authors Bio)

The Society of Wildlife Artists, headquartered in England, is still welcoming submissions from artists in North America and beyond for its annual gala exhibition and awards ceremony to be held at Mall Galleries in London later in September.

With the closing date for entries—July 9, 2010—rapidly approaching, newly elected SWLA president Harriet Mead notes that images can be sent electronically for the first phase of juried review. Digital submissions will undergo a preliminary selection and artists with successful entries will then be invited to send actual works to the Mall Galleries in time for the main selection day in August.

The SWLA exhibition, which opens on September 22 and runs through October 2, 2010 not only offers wildlife artists an opportunity to elevate their profile internationally and meet colleagues from around the world, but it is one of the most prestigious juried exhibitions for the genre.

By intention, the SWLA has held its show later in September so as not to conflict with other events being held in the U.S. such as the annual Art and the Animal exhibition  staged by the US-based Society of Animal Artists

This year, the SAA is marking its 50th anniversary.  Its show opens Sept. 4 at the San Diego Natural History Museum.  Many artists internationally belong to both the SWLA and SAA.

Another important event is the annual Birds in Art exhibition held at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.  It opens on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Wausau, Wisconsin.

In the UK, the 12th annual Marwell International Wildlife Art Society show in Hampshire opens Thursday, Aug. 26th and runs through Monday, Aug. 30. (The entry deadline for that show is July 17).

The Society of Wildlife Artists show in England is known for the quality of works that get juried in.  Its selection committee reserves the right to reject work that has been preliminarily accepted if the digital images have given an inaccurate or misleading portrayal of the actual work or if it is poorly presented (e.g. framing) when viewed at selection.  All shipment costs are the responsibility of the artist. To register or receive more information, readers can go to the SWLA Website at  www.swla.co.uk or click here.

Submission fee is £10 per work up to a maximum of 6 works. Deadline for digital submissions July 9th 2010. Once registered the digital images (jpegs only) should be emailed to lucyward@mallgalleries.com  This applies strictly to non-UK submissions only.
