For more than a generation, the Prix de West Invitational in Oklahoma City has been a focal point for "Western" art in America.  Held every June at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, the exhibition and art sale have been important stepping stones in the careers of master artists and a proving ground for younger contemporary painters and sculptors trying to establish a name for themselves among collectors.

Compared to other venues, Prix de West remains a traditional forum where Realism reigns supreme.  While cowboys, Indians and landscapes continue to dominate subject matter, Prix de West over the years has featured works from many of the foremost animal artists in North America.

Prix de West gala weekend begins Friday, June 11, 2010 with works hanging on display through September 6, 2010.  The top prize of the event is the Prix de West Purchase Award that has celebrated several animal works and there are honors bestowed in a number of categories.

Here, Wildlife Art Journal has selected two dozen works (or thereabout) from the more than 300 paintings and sculpture that are on display at the 2010 event.  Keep checking back.  We will provide a complete list of award winners after they are announced....
