Wildlife Artist of the Year is one of the preeminent juried competitions for the genre of wildlife art. For those who cannot travel to Mall Galleries in London this year to see the works that have been short-listed by a panel of judges, Wildlife Art Journal once again is offering this digital preview of the show.
Wildlife Artist of the Year is the brainchild of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and is part of its ongoing effort to marry the public appeal of art with grassroots conservation. Artists are not only lauded for raising awareness about threats to the survival of hundreds of imperiled species, but proceeds from the sales of works are channeled to projects on the ground that matter. Among the high-profile endeavors that the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation has championed: restoring black rhinocerous to South Africa, tackling illegal trade in elephant ivory, enhancing tiger research in India, helping to establish a gauntlet of game park guards to combat poaching and hundreds of other initiatives.
