The Society of Animal Artists is the oldest organization in North America devoted exclusively to celebrating wildlife in painting and sculpture. 

The SAA's  49th annual Art and the Animal Exhibition opened recently at the Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure complex in Salina, Kansas.  As the first major event of a busy art season in the U.S. Art and the Animal showcases hundreds of works and, as part of a juried competition, bestows honors on works of merit.  The show (see dates, below) will remain on display in Salina through November 1, 2009 then embark on a national tour that will last well into 2010.

The following is a list of award winners and, where applicable, the name of each piece:
